good food
I went here with my sister and her friend for brunch. We waited about 20 minutes to get seated, which either says something about how popular this place is, or the limited amount of seating they have, or both.

Anyway, the food itself is pretty good! I ordered a vegan dish with tofu, zucchini, spinach, cauliflower in a sesame seed sauce, served with house fries (diced potatoes) and a muffin. The vegan dish was extremely savory and perfect. The muffin was pretty good and the potatoes were pretty good. We also had a pomegrante mimosa which tasted sweet as well. The dish was about $10 and the mimosa came out to be $7.50...kinda pricey but it was worth it after waiting for that long..

great food
I came here with some people after a nice hike, so we were pretty hungry. I ordered a combination: chicken sandwich and a half salad. This came to exactly $7 (no tax).

The chicken sandwich was pretty good on the honey wheat bread, but I thought the salad was even better with the vinegrette dressing tossed in. It was a lot of salad for a "half salad" which included cherry tomatoes, croutons, and other stuff I don't remember. The regular salads are HUGE, enough to feed a family. All entrees come with a slice of pineapple, which was cool.

Overall pretty good.

happy hour!
I came here for a friend's birthday around 1030 pm. Luckily they still had their happy hour specials on the food! My sister and I ordered these popcorn shrimp and fries, 3 kobe beef sliders, and a chicken quesadilla. They were all probably about $4-6 each! Not bad!

The service was really good too. They accommodated 10 of us during this time (even though the place seemed a little empty). We wanted some sangrias, and the bartender made a new mix just for us. The sangrias were really good, by the way.

The place itself seemed a little run down, but if that doesn't bother you, then don't worry about it! :]

NOT overrated
I've been hearing about this place since I've moved to Berkeley, and every time I pass by, there is a LONG line to get in. I figured that showed how good this place is.

I went here on a Sunday afternoon with my roommate and luckily the lines were not long at all (we probably waited like 5 minutes). I thought the flavors of ice cream were interesting: earl gray? vanilla rose? honey lavender??

I chose one scoop of honey lavender on their specially made waffle cone..it was about $3 something. A little pricey, but apparently everything is made from organic ingredients. I was expecting this place to be HYPED but IT WAS NOT. Omg, the honey lavender was sooo good: not too sweet and had a nice creamy texture.

Then to wash it down, they have a pitcher and cups of SPARKLING water. just. wow.

Definitely coming here again

A Berkeley staple
Good sausages, great Bizerkeley feel.

A bock and a hot, with the hot Russian mustard -- two thumbs up. Not nearly as good as Tip-Top in San Diego if you're a gourmet (done 3 direct A-B comparos) -- I think Top Dog uses mostly Saag's.

Don't plan on hanging out -- it's a closet with a grill, and the wallpaper hates you and your Western decadence...

Best mex in SF
Don't be fooled by the casual, cafeteria-style dining. The food is savory, fresh, and absolutely delicious.

A welcome escape from overly-Americanized south-of-the-border offerings, one whiff of their handmade mole will let you know you're in the right place.

I've liked everything there, but recommend starting with the Torta al Pastor or tamal.

Prices are super reasonable, and portions are normal, not large, which encourages sampling other great dishes!

Nice and spicy
I've been eating here since 1983, and the maitre'd still doesn't recognize me :(

Well, there are gaps of years in my attendance, but there has never been a gap in the quality of the food or the service.

In a city with unlimited options for great Asian food, Mandarin Gardens is a favorite and a standby.

I recommend the Kung Pao, and ask them to turn up the volume just a touch ;)
